About The Upcoming IEL & Indy Parks Collaboration

The Institute for Engaged Learning plans to implement a partnership with Indy Parks that would encompass every department in IU Indianapolis.

This program will...

  • Connect students with a class that provides engaged learning opportunities in partnership with Indy Parks.

  • Supply faculty members with incentivized opportunities to implement a cutting-edge learning initiative in their curriculums.

  • Provide real-world Indy Park projects to students in every major.

Examples of what the upcoming IEL & Indy Parks collaboration

might look like in practice

Mark is a communication studies major interested in public relations. He finds an engaged learning class in the program that advertises projects in PR. When the class starts he is given the tools, connections, and support needed to start his semester-long project, a series of press releases.

Indy Parks uses these press releases and Mark now has real-world experience in his desired industry as well as class credit for completing the project.

Angel is an education major specifically interested in elementary education. She hears about a class from her friend that allows education majors to create a short educational program for a real-life group of students at one of Indy Parks' day camps.

Angel's program is used by counselors at the Indy Parks winter break camp. The counselors loved the program so much that they asked the administration if they could add it to their regular program schedule. Angel is offered an internship with an Indy Parks Youth Services manager after the semester ends.
